1. Methods of establishing the similarity in searching by content in multimedia database with medical images

D.D. GARAIMANGABI-DANIELA GARAIMAN

The content based image search and retrieve systems are grounded on their images characteristics: the colour histogram, the colour binary set, the texture or granulation which are materialized into images representation models. The search and retrieval of a content based image implies comparisons between the images. This thing involves the use of a huge amount of resources and for a very long period of time. That is why the comparison takes place between the image representation models. The measuring of the similarity between the two images can be determined in the following ways: by calculating the Minkowski distance, the Hamming distance, the square distance, generaliyed measure Jaccard and corelation measure Pearson. The study was realized for a set of three images compose by a one interrogation endoscopical image and two target endoscopical images (one relevant image and one irrelevant image). They are compareted results for all methods of establishing image similitude using the images representation models in the RGB colour space and the HSV color space.

2. The evaluation of the most important anthropometric variables in adult population in Oltenia County

DANA ALBULESCU,ADRIANA ILIESCU,IULIANA NICOLESCU

Anthropometric measurements allow us to establish population health state and the tendency and evolution of the variables resulted from those measurements. By studying height, weight and body fat and also by calculating the waist circumference hip circumference ratio and by calculating the body mass index, we could group the adult population of Oltenia county into the category of the overweight subjects and  I class obesity; therefore the risk of the coronarian and diabetes mellitus type II diseases increases simultaneous to the significant fat accumulations.

3. Socio-economic factors influencing the nutritional behaviour of pupils

ILEANA PREJBEANU, MONICA CARA, CATALINA PISOSCHI

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the quality of morning nutrition of children in primary school, related to the residence environment and the family educational level. We included in our study 220 children in the age group 8-10, studying in urban and rural schools. They answered a 24-itemed questionnaire regarding their morning nutrition. Nutrition state, health state and school performance were evaluated. We found that 9.1% of all the children skip breakfast and midmorning snack. Most frequently they have margarine, salami, jam or cheese sandwiches and tea as breakfast. The free “milk and roll” are daily consumed by less than 45 % of the subjects. We did not find significant disorders in their nutrition and health state. Educational activities for a healthy nutrition are necessary.

4. Hystopathological aspects of the endometrial carcinomas in correlation with the tumoral grading and the invasiveness

SIDONIA CATALINA VRABIE,CRISTIANA SIMIONESCU

We present a retrospective hystopathological study which comprised a number of 23 endometrial carcinomas, hospitalised and operated in the Gynecology Clinics of the Emergency Hospital of Craiova. We have analysed the following aspects of the previous mentioned cases: the average age at diagnosis, the tumoral grading, the miometrial penetration degree and the existence of the local or loco-regional invasion. The correlation of the differentiation level with that of the tumoral progression allowed us to observe the fact that while the well differentiated invasive endometroide adenocarcinomas were limited at the level of the uterine body, the moderated and the poorly differentiated ones associated, in some cases, beside cervical invasion and metastasis in structures situated at some distance, a deep myometrial invasion.

The purpose of this study is to appreciate if there is an immune response in malignant brain tumors. Material and methods: Eleven astrocytomas of varying histological features were immunohistologically studied, using a panel of monoclonal antibody against CD20cy to highlight T-lymphocytes, CD3 for B-lymphocytes and CD68 as marker of the macrophages. Ki67 antibody was used as marker of proliferation. We evaluated the presence of these markers in peritumoral stroma and intratumoral tissue. Results: In our study, none of the astrocytic tumors studied showed B-lymphocytes. The presence of T lymphocytes was evidenced in all 11 selected cases. While low-grade astrocytomas showed positive CD3 immunostaining only in tumoral cells, anaplastic astrocytomas and glioblastomas revealed positive immunostaining also in perivascular space. As it was expected, mean values for proliferative marker Ki-67 revealed that there was a significant difference between the indices of low- (grade II) and high-grade tumors (grade III and IV) (P<0.05), but not between grade III and IV tumors (P>0.05). Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that the numbers of macrophages and T-lymphocytes in astrocytic tumors are related to highly malignant histological features. The presence of these cells in such a kind of neoplastic lesions raises questions concerning the possible immune response and the possible relation of this to prognosis.

ANCA-MIHAELA PREDESCU, VIOLETA COMANESCU, L.MOGOANTA, ADRIANA BOLD, NINA IONOVICI, GAROFITA MATEESCU

The present histological study followed the presence of liver steatosis in HIV-infected children subsequently dead with AIDS. At autopsy, liver specimens have been sampled from 22 subjects in B and respectively C clinical and immunological stages. The liver specimens have been processed for paraffin embedding, then cut with a microtom into 3-5 micrometer-thick sections, which were stained with haematoxylin-eosin and thricrome Goldner-Szekelly. The presence of liver steatosis was identified in 16 cases (72,8%), in the other 6 cases no steatotic changes being identified. In these 16 cases with presence of liver steatosis, steatosis was graded as follows: mild steatosis in 6 cases (37,5%), moderate steatosis in 4 cases (25%) and severe and massive steatosis in 6 cases (37,5%).The microscopically aspect of liver steatosis, was the most frequently described, as macrovesicular in 8 cases, in 4 cases there were microvesicular changes, and the other 4 cases presented with a mixed aspect, macrovesicular and microvesicular.

7. Morphoclinical Correlations In Senile Osteoporosis

NINA IONOVICI, L. MOGOANTA, D. GRECU, ADRIANA BOLD, ANCA MIHAELA PREDESCU, CRISTINA BUSUIOC, GAROFITA OLIVIA MATEESCU

Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by microarchitectural abnormal changes of bone tissue which lead to fragile bones and bone fractures at medium or minimal traumatism. This disease affects a large population, especially women, proportion women/men being 2/1-3/1. Histologically, the volumes of cortical and spongy bone are reduced in osteoporosis compare to normal bone, bone lost rate been different with bone type and is more accentuated at spongy bone level compare to cortical bone level. One of the most severe complications of senile osteoporosis is the fracture of femoral neck. In our study we concluded that fracture of femoral neck appears to be more frequently in old people, especially in the 7th and 8th decade. Statistic analysis regarding the habitat showed that fracture of femoral neck affects more patients who live in villages because this people are exposed to intense mechanic traumatism. Microscopic study of bone pieces collected from the patients who suffered a surgery for fracture of femoral neck, show a decrease number of bone trabeculaes, thinness, buckling and breaking up of the remaining trabeculaes, parceling disappearing of osteoprogenitors cells from endost, enlarged areolar cavities, distortion and thinning of cortical bone.

The failures of root canal preparation are due to some anatomical deviation (canal in “C” or “S”) and some technique errors. The technique errors are usually present in canal root cleansing and shaping stage and are the result of endodontic treatment objectives deviation. Objectives: Our study was made on technique errors while preparing the canal roots with hand ProTaper. Methodology: Our study was made “in vitro” on 84 extracted teeth (molars, premolars, incisors and canines). The canal root of these teeth were cleansed and shaped with hand ProTaper by crown-down technique and canal irrigation with NaOCl(2,5%). The dental preparation control was made by X-ray. Results: During canal root preparation some failures were observed like: canal root  overinstrumentation, zipping and stripping phenomenon, discarded and/or fractured instruments. Conclusions: Hand ProTaper represents a revolutionary progress of endodontic treatment, but a deviation from accepted rules of canal root instrumentation can lead to failures of endodontic treatment.

9. Whitening non vital teeth - a case report

IREN MORARU, MIHAELA TUCULINA, MARILENA BATAIOSU, LELIA GHEORGHITA, OANA DIACONU

Commonly used in cosmetic dentistry teeth whitening can be used combined with other restorative techniques during dental treatment. Non-vital teeth whitening is necessary whenever we need an improvement of their aspect, as it’s a known fact that these teeth can have a grey or pink-grey coloration when they are not correctly endodontical treated.

10. Importance of occlusal equilibration for partial edentulous prothesis with fixed gnatoprotetic devices

C. DAGUCI, LUMINITA DAGUCI, R. POPESCU, VERONICA MERCUT, MARILENA BATAIOSU

In the general economy of the functionality of the stomatognat system, an important role is held by the oclusal function, namely, both the dentodentary intra-arcades reports and also the dynamics of the inter-arcades reports which, when they are correct, contribute to the maintaining of the homeostasis of the system and when they are affected have traumatic consequences, of oversolicitation that can be polymorphly manifested at the level of the system’s components. A pathological modification which affects a component of the stomatognat system produces also the deregulation of the others’ functionality, entering a vicious circle of self destruction, installing thus the pathological state to the other components, producing the dysfunction of the stomatognat system. The prosthesation of the partial edentation through fix gantoprosthetic apparatus contribute to the recovering of function of the dentomaxillary apparatus, and the step of oclusal equilibration hinders the apparition of the oclusal trauma phenomenon. In this paper is presented a method of determination of premature contacts and oclusal interferences in a clinical case of conjunct prosthesation of a reduced partial edentation, having a prosthetic field showing deficits from the dento-parodontal point of view.
